I spent a weekend deep in the winter on the coves at the base of Cape Cornwall. Cape Cornwall has long been one of my favourite walking hubs – I love the villages of St Just and Sennen nearby. The walks from Cape Cornwall to Lands End and Lamorna in one direction, and to Botallack in the other, are an endless inspiration to me.
I spent a day at Porth Ledden and Preist’s Cove, each resting to either side of the Cape, sketching the tideline and boulder-fields. Porth Ledden was one of the sites for my recent Newlyn art school online abstraction course with Anita Reynolds, and I’ve been drawn back there to continue the work. The rich shapes and colours of the rocks are superb in both locations, and Priest’s Cove also has several fishing shacks and stores in stages of dereliction.
