This was a lockdown project in 2020.
Ever since I’d seen David Hockney’s Bigger Picture exhibition at the RA in 2012, I’d wanted to do something to play with the idea of trees of many colours. I’m colour blind, so it is very liberating for me to feel no need to make anything realistic in an image.
Fantasy forest is acrylic on board, done mostly using brush and paint pens. It incorporates some found objects too – the rusty metal barn was cut from a piece of roofing I found in the lane. The granite chips are from my studio path. I loved doing this one. A meditation in colour, done over three or four days out in the sunshine here on the Moor.
